November, 2013 – March, 2014

Public reception – December 7

Unbound Visual Arts, based in Allston-Brighton, and the Harvard Allston Education Portal, are very pleased and excited to announce the opening of  the new contemporary fine art exhibition featuring a local artist: Amy Kelly: Transitions.

The Amy Kelly exhibition, curated by John Quatrale, is an exhibition of mostly oil paintings that attempt to “capture the moment between life and the transition” to it’s next stage.  Through her figurative drawings and abstract recreations, Amy incorporates materials that portray the elegance of the decomposition process sometimes related to death and decay.  She is attempting “to create an existential snapshot of the lesser traveled paths of the human psyche.”  In the end she is seeking to get as close to non-existence as possible in order to “celebrate the beauty of the imperfect.”  Through her flowing  color and black and white artwork, Amy creates an imminent sense of explosive evolutionary energy in many forms.  The artwork with a mixture of both partial and clear representational forms create a powerful juxtapositional effect of life and death that she strives for. This is her first one-person exhibition.

Amy Kelly, of Brighton, is a member of Unbound Visual Arts and was part of the first Unbound Members Exhibition at the Harvard Allston Education Portal Art Galleries from May – August, 2013.  She recently completed the requirements for her B.F.A. with honors from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.  While at MassArt, she was Vice-President of the Adult Student League and curated and participated in two exhibitions.  She also attended Boston University’s College of Fine Arts.
