November 2 – January 5, 2014
Public reception – November 17
Unbound Visual Arts, the new non-profit incorporated to enliven the creative economy for all, is very pleased and excited to announce the opening of Martha Jane Bradford: Fragile Harmony. The exhibition, curated by John Quatrale, at the Athan’s Café Art Gallery in Brighton, is an exhibition of realistic digital drawings by Brookline artist Martha Jane Bradford that meticulously and faithfully recreate and portray the “fragile harmony” between nature and human activity. She strives to capture and to share her experiences in the natural world that she encounters all around us. These digital drawings of quiet landscapes and natural scenes convey a silent anticipation related to environmental coexistence. Her limited edition detailed hand-drawings, which strongly mimic photographs, also suggest “a spiritual narrative” for the viewer to develop. The drawings are created with a digital tablet and electronic hand pen and printed with archival inks on fine art paper.
Martha Jane Bradford, of Brookline, is a member of Unbound Visual Arts. She received her B.A. from Mount Holyoke College and studied Lithography at the School of the Museum of Fine Art, Boston. She has been in numerous one-person and group exhibitions, including the Clark Gallery in Lincoln and the Danforth Museum of Art in Framingham. Her artwork is the collections of numerous museums and other public and private institutions and corporations, including the deCordova Sculpture Gallery & Museum, the Boston Public Library, the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, ME, the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University and the Utah Museum of Fine Art. She is a past recipient of a Massachusetts Artist Fellowship.
