Curator’s Statement:
This exhibition explores the concept of identity through self-portraiture. The 11th and 12th grade AP Art Class students at Brighton High School were asked to push the boundaries of self-portraiture, reflecting on their own unique personalities, emphasizing what is meaningful to them as individuals. Students were challenged to investigate both the interior and exterior of who they are, how they perceive themselves, and how others may perceive them. Through personal inquiry and extensive planning, these artists have created complex self-portraits using a variety of 2D media.
