Friends,
This has been such a significant year for Unbound Visual Arts. Our 2024 has been about welcoming change and trying out new ideas, amplifying artistic expression and expanding our network of local creatives, and making new connections with those working in the arts and culture sector. We can’t believe how quickly the year has gone by, so before it’s over let’s do some reminiscing! Here are some of our highlights:
First, we graciously transitioned to a new generation of UVA leaders. John Quatrale’s founding leadership at UVA has set a solid foundation for future growth and creative vision, paving the way for the opening of a new chapter.
That said, we’ve been thrilled to have Jessica Hernandez promoted into the role of Managing Director this summer, where she now leads the creative direction and operations at UVA, bringing fresh perspectives to the position. We also recognize UVA’s dedicated Board members, interns, and volunteers. UVA’s Board Presidency role transitioned from Ruth Rieffanaugh to Madeline Lee, and we welcomed Claudia Starkey and Mara Tu onto the Board of Directors.
In terms of our 2024 programming, we’ve broadened artistic engagement through 9 original exhibits which showcased the artwork of 82 artists. We hosted 15 programs that deepened connections with exhibit themes, highlighted artists working in diverse forms, or offered opportunities to exchange ideas and skills through workshops and talks. Finally, we welcomed 923 visitors to our gallery spaces in Allston-Brighton whether they were artists, community members, or representatives of local organizations.
We also sought ways to become a stronger member of our community and neighborhood, such as joining the Allston Brighton Health Collaborative, participating in the Boston University Arts Fair, and being a partner site for the Allston-Brighton Community Plan led by the City of Boston.
We’re excited to keep doing the work of amplifying creativity and fostering community in 2025, so stay tuned for all that’s to come!
If you resonate with our work, we want you to join us by supporting UVA’s impact in the Boston area. Your financial support will sustain our stewardship of UVA’s gallery space – from general operations, to embarking on new curatorial approaches that help us challenge societal norms, and fostering community partnerships that inspire local transformation and move toward a more equitable future. Your generosity will enable continued reliable access to our arts space which is crucial for presenting narratives that amplify the work of Boston area artists and encourage social change.
Please consider making a gift to UVA today by donating here, and as always, we are thankful for supporters like you who make our mission at UVA possible!
With gratitude and best wishes,
Jessica Hernandez
