Unbound Visual Arts (UVA) is a unique Allston-Brighton based non-profit art organization, serving the Greater Boston community with programs and exhibits to encourage learning, engagement, and change. Since our founding in 2012, we’ve focused on presenting contemporary art that critically engages with our present moment – believing that art has the potential to interrogate social norms, redefine perspectives, and transmit new ideas.
When we curate, we seek out art that is meaningful and conceptually-rich – looking for work that pushes us toward new ways of engaging with the world around us. Whether it be looking through the lens of an artist’s unique perspective or interrogating the systems that structure our world, we value work that makes us imagine differently. Our exhibits have examined subjects ranging from environmental sustainability, health and wellness, and the structures of gender and race.
Another central part of our mission includes building a strong network of local artists as we consistently showcase the work of artists who live and reside in the Greater Boston area.
Since 2012, we have presented over 90 independently curated art exhibitions and programming across the Greater Boston area. In December 2021, we opened the Arthaus Gallery (Allston) and in November 2023, we opened the Overlook (Brighton) — our second dedicated exhibition gallery. The galleries are less than 1 mile apart. With these two spaces, we look forward to providing more exhibiting opportunities for local artists while continuing to create meaningful stories through art.
