Curator’s Statement:

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.  This exhibition will strive to enlighten and educate the public on mindfulness, which is a cornerstone of mental and physical health for many. It is a quality that every human being can possess and utilize through practice.

The narratives behind each work and every artist will tell a story of their journey and inspire the viewers. Artists are encouraged to present a narrative of any mindful and/or spiritual paths that may be represented in their works of art. As a result, visitors may be inspired to embark on their own spiritual/awakened and more healthful paths. Visitors will be inspired to evaluate their breathing styles through more consciously and deeply feeling more relaxed and truly enlightened via the artworks and information presented on mindfulness & being fully present.

Artists are invited to submit artwork that relates to the theme of the exhibit. A statement of how the work related is a required question. Artists may submit a maximum of 4 works of art. Art may be for sale or not for sale, and all sales are handled by Unbound Visual Arts. UVA maintains fine art insurance against loss or damage. Diptychs/triptychs are considered one entry and should be united as one image for viewing by our curator. Sculpture artists may submit 2 images of each submitted work for consideration. Non-UVA members may submit and wait to join if they are accepted.

Three-dimensional installation work is allowed. If an installation is chosen by the curator, the artist must be available during the install dates.

All video or interactive submissions, or video details illustrating an entry, must be in the form of a link to a viewable online copy of each work AND a single representative jpg image. The work should be shown online in its full length. It is understood that online versions of video files may be lower quality than those expected for exhibition in the gallery due to compression and internet formatting. If the spoken language in the video is not English, please provide a translated transcription. If video work is accepted, the artist is responsible for providing all the necessary means, such as a USB drive, to show via UVAs 40 inch TV Monitor or its wall projector.

Artwork may include 2 or 3-dimensional works in any media including videos. Programming may include live or virtual yoga, meditation an other mindfulness exercises.
