Proposals from Black and Indigenous artists and curators are given priority.
Whether you’re a curator, solo artist, or a group/collective, we’ll treat your exhibit with as much care as we do ours and we’ll provide the support, resources, and planning that we give our own exhibits.
Solo exhibits are $250 and group exhibits are $600 (both are discounted for UVA members), but we never want finances to be a barrier to showing work, so we can always make accommodations, waive fees, and figure out another arrangement. Finally, if UVA is reaching out to you for a solo exhibit, group exhibition, or guest curator position, this is because we’re interested in your work, so we’ll never ask you to pay. We want to support artists, not exploit them!
Important Notes:
- Solo Exhibits – $250 (discounted for UVA members)
- Group Exhibitions – $600 (discounted for UVA members)
- We will evaluate guest curator proposals on a case-by-case basis to determine whether you’re looking for a gallery
where you can carry out your idea for an exhibition, or if your proposal seems like more of a collaboration with UVA. - A proposal does not guarantee exhibition and if you’re paying for a solo or group exhibit,
payment only occurs after we’ve accepted your idea!
Notes on Artwork:
- The approximate range of works is 12-20 depending on size
- Two-dimensional and three-dimensional works are accepted
- Complete installations and site-specific works tailored to our galleries will also be considered
- Film, video, and sound art are welcome, we’ll just have to consider set-up and tech needs
UVA Responsibilities:
- All exhibit designs, installations and de-installations are managed by UVA;
- All publicity, including social media, postcard and website pages, is managed by UVA;
- All opening receptions are managed by UVA
- All exhibits are placed on UVA’s website for public viewing and art purchases;
- All sales are handled by UVA; all sales will require a 35% commission to UVA; and
- All exhibits are covered by UVA’s art insurance.
Once we receive your proposal, we’ll start the review process and if we need additional information, we’ll be in touch! If we decide to move forward with an exhibit, we’ll do our best to organize it during your preferred time frame. You’ll also receive our standard Exhibit and Loan Agreement to review and execute, which outlines the roles and responsibilities of the artist(s) and UVA.
If you have any questions or want to learn more about the process before you submit a proposal, please feel free to send us an email at info@unboundvisualarts.org.
